X Imaging Extension (XIE) extends the capabilities of the X Window Systemto include a rich set of industry-standard, X server-based imagerendition facilities.XIE includes device-independent support for bitonal, grayscale, and colorimages. It also provides all conversion functions needed to match thecharacteristics of an image to those of a display. XIE also minimizesimage storage requirements by supporting CCITT G3, CCITT G4, and JPEGcompression.
